This paper,based on the English-Chinese translation practice of political academic papers,studies the techniques and methods in the translation from the perspective of functional equivalence theory,discusses the difficulties and problems encountered in the process of translation,and proposes some effective methods and techniques for the translation of this kind of text through the analysis of concrete examples.First,the paper analyses the characteristics of the source text and the problems that should be noticed in translation process.Second,combined with the connotation of the theory of functional equivalence and the characteristics of political academic papers,this paper discusses the guiding role of functional equivalence theory in the translation of political academic papers.Third,it analyses the whole process of translation practice and the tasks completed in the three stages of pre-translation,in-translation,and post-translation.Then,through the analysis of some specific case studies,the author puts forward different translation skills and methods,including literal translation,free translation and combination of literal and free translation to the political terms,and sequential translation and restrution for long and difficult sentences.In addition,some difficult problems that encountered in the translation also be discussed,including “translationese” problem and the importance of background information to translation.It is hoped that this translation practice can provide some reference for the translation of similar texts.
