This paper is a Chinese-English translation practice report. The source text of the translation practice is Style of Western Liaoning, one of a series of books,Memory of the Old Home in Sketches signed by my tutor and Academy Press. In 2014,this series of books was selected into the project library of Reform and Development Project Concerning Press and Publication.Style of Western Liaoning contains more than 188 sketches. It records the ancient architecture, folk customs and life style that have disappeared or are disappearing all over the country in simple, illustrated form.In the process of translation, the problems encountered by the author mainly come from culture-loaded words, proper nouns and syntax.Guided by the theory of adaptation and combining the linguistic style and textual characteristics of the source text, the author proposes corresponding translation strategies for different problems from three aspects:language, culture and communication,so as to realize the communicative function of the source text.Through case analysis, the author found that it is helpful to adapt to English readers’language habits, cultural background and communicative thinking with translation skills such as amplification, omission, free translation, literal translation and annotation, transliteration, conversion and restructuring in translation. Therefore, the English readers would have the same response as the Chinese readers do.The author hopes that this practice report can provide advice for reference for the scholars who will study the translation of texts of cultural heritage, and make a modest contribution to the going global of Chinese culture.
