English Interpreting Report For 2019 International Training Workshop On Livestock Feeding,Processing And Waste Treatment

This report is based on the interpreting practices that the author worked as a volunteer interpreter in “2019 International Training Workshop on Livestock Feeding,Processing and Waste Treatment”,using the literature review method and case study method to discuss the application of schema theory in interpreting practice.The author analyzes the application of schema theory in interpretation from the three stages before,during and after interpretation.In the pre-interpretation stage,the author analyzes the collection of background material in the content schema to analyze the role of schema theory.At the same time,the author mainly analyzes the process of collecting information,and turns the collected information into schemata stored in the brain.At the stage of interpreting,the author starts from the three aspects of linguistic schema,content schema and cultural schema to analyze the application of these three schemata in the interpreting process with specific interpreting examples.The author then summarizes the problems in interpreting,the causes of problems and possible solutions.At the same time,the author also analyzes how to activate the schemata stored in the brain during the interpreting by combining the two information processing methods of "top-down" and "bottom-up" of schema theory.In the post-interpretation stage,the author summarizes the translation mainly from the audience’s feedback and self-evaluation,analyzes the problems in interpreting,and concludes some improving measures.According to analyzing interpreting practices based on schema theory,the author found that,firstly,schemata could help interpreter decode new information quickly,and understand speaker’s intention.As a result,it could improve interpreting quality.Secondly,the combination of context and schemata in brain could help interpreter to predict speech content,so as to seize interpreting from the whole and relieve interpreter’s mental pressure.Finally,linguistic schema,content schema and cultural schema will guide interpreter to constantly improve interpreting ability from grammar,understanding,expressing,storage of background knowledge and culture,so as to become an excellent interpreter.
