On Plato’s Cosmic Soul

Plato’s natural philosophy synthesises the former Socrates’ natural philosophy,which is embodied in cosmology.The core of Plato’s cosmology--cosmic soul--is also derived from the former Socrates’ cosmology.Plato’s cosmic soul fuses and modifies the medium-term idealism and introduces the Pythagorean School of mathematical philosophy,to "geometrize the form",to mathematicize the structure of the universe and to make the whole universe orderly;therefore,Plato’s cosmic soul problem is about the order of the universe.From the construction of the static picture of human polis to the ancient Athens presented by the ideal polis in the "story" of Daxi Island,it lays the foundation for the possibility of human polis order,and at the same time,it provides the possibility for exploring the problem of cosmic order.Plato’s transformation of the creation myth and the theory of the creation of the universe by imitating the " geometrization form" include the simultaneous creation of the body and soul of the universe,which completely geometrizes the composition of the universe.The celestial music combines harmonics,astronomy and mathematics to construct the whole universe.The human soul and the cosmic soul have the same composition,so the human soul also contains harmony.To practice the harmony of human soul is to understand the order of the soul of the universe.The ultimate goal of both is to achieve perfection and harmony.
