A Report On The Translation Of The Protagonist(Excerpts)

This report takes the novel The Protagonist as the case.The original text tells a small village girl,Yi Qin'e,learned to sing Qinqiang since the age of eleven and finally became a famous actress.The story mainly occurs in the Qinling Mountains area of Shaanxi Province,China.Based on chapters twelve to fifteen of The Protagonist translated by the author,there are a large number of Chinese characteristics words in the original text,such as Shaanxi dialect,Qinqiang terms and so on.Therefore,under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author uses the fidelity rule to convey the cultural information of the original text to the target language readers as far as possible.For this purpose,the author mainly adopts literal translation with annotation,transliteration translation with annotation and other translation methods.This report not only reviews the translation process of original texts,but also summarizes the translation methods that the author use in the process of translation.This report is mainly composed of five parts: introduction,,translation process,theoretical basis,case analysis and conclusion.The first part introduces the background of Chinese culture's “going out” and the novel The Protagonist and its author Chen Yan.The second part is a summary of the whole translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation matters.The third part is theoretical basis.The fourth part is the core part of this report.It analyzes the translation of idiom,dialect,culture-specific expressions and Qinqiang terms in the original text with examples and summarizes the translation methods adopted by the author: literal translation and literal translation with annotation,free translation,transliteration translation with annotation and so on.The fifth part is the conclusion.Firstly,the author shares the knowledge and experience gained in this translation.Secondly,the author summarizes the problems and shortcomings.
