With the rapid development of China and globalization of the world,more and more people are paying much attention to English learning and want to improve their English level for adapting to the development of society.At present,classroom is the main place where students receive English in China.Therefore,teacher talk can be regarded as comprehensible input for students.Teachers' accurate and standardized discourses in class are great significance to promote language output of students.This thesis introduces the “classroom discourse” through literature research detailedly and gives a clear definition.Based on the analysis,the author summarizes the relevant researches on “classroom discourse” at home and abroad,then applies input hypothesis,output hypothesis,interactive hypothesis and discourse analysis theory to this thesis.Based on the research sample-9 English teachers from three senior high schools(S1 in the city,S2 in the county,S3 in the countryside)in Lvliang,the author adopted the methods of classroom record,questionnaire survey and interview and studied three main questions.(1)What is the amount of English teachers' talk in classroom teaching?(2)What are the characteristics of classroom questioning as teacher talk about English teachers?(3)How do senior high school English teachers give feedback as teacher talk on students' classroom performance?According to study and analyze the above three questions,the author drew the following conclusions:(1)The amount of teacher talk is more than 50% and most English teachers prefer to teach in English;(2)Most teachers tend to use display questioning in class;(3)Most teachers always give positive feedback to students but some of them are too simple.According to the research findings,the author makes a summary and provides some constructive suggestions to English teachers: controlling the amount of teacher talk;adjusting the form of teacher questioning;improving the quality of teacher feedback.Although some findings have been made in this study,there are still many deficiencies.Such as,the limited research objects and the research time.Whether the research results are applicable to the all areas still needs to be further demonstrated.
