A Report On The Chinese Translation Of The Prepositional Phrases In Marine Safety Investigations And Reports

Under the guidance of relevance theory,this report summarizes the translation methods of prepositional phrases in the Maritime Safety Investigation Report by the means of case analysis.Maritime documents belong to the category of EST(English for Science and Technology),whose language is formal and rigorous with high frequency of preposition.There are many differences between eastern and western countries in the thinking habits.In translation,it is difficult to find the equivalent translation in many cases for the prepositional phrases.Taking the prepositional phrases translation as the research point.This report studies the "indication-reasoning" process proposed by the relevance theory.By inferring the context and meaning of the original text,the author tries to establish the best relevance to realize the best translation communication.This report ultimately concludes the translation methods of prepositional phrases including amplification,conversion,omission,literal translation and division.In the process of translation,the author sums up the translation methods of prepositional phrase translation to provide some references for prepositional phrases translation in the same literature.
