An academic monograph is a work that contains the author's research results. Its publication and translation can help other scholars keep up with the research status in a certain field, promote the brainstorming among researchers in this field, and play a vital role in the communication and advancement of the entire academia. The translation of academic monographs is essential for the dissemination of shared academic achievements across borders, and the relevant study on it plays a vital role in improving the efficiency and quality of academic exchanges. The translation practice materials covered in this report are excerpted from Cultural Studies and Discourse Analysis published in 2001.The translation practice is provided by the author's supervisor and is completed under his guidance.Guided by Catford's translation shifts theory, this report analyzes the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation process by means of case analysis, discusses the effect of translation shifts theory on the translation in specific contexts, and attempts to explore the significance of translation shifts theory for the E-C translation of academic monographs. In view of the rare domestic research on the application of translation shifts theory on the translation of academic monographs, this report is innovative to a certain extent, and it is expected to provide inspiration for future study on the E-C translation of academic monographs.
