As far as the Confucius Institute is concerned,learning motivation is an important factor for learners to guide and maintain second language learning.Studying students ’learning motivation is helpful to make teachers better target teaching and formulate teaching strategies suitable for their motivations under the premise of clarifying the students’ motivation to choose Chinese.It plays a very important role in improving the level of Chinese teaching.The Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Verde was established in Praia,the capital in 2015.So far,it has registered more than 2,000 students,about 30 volunteer teachers and 3 formal teachers.There are many international studies on the motivation of second language acquisition,and there are also many studies on the motivation of learners of the African Confucius Institute.However,after searching,I didn’t find a survey on the motivation of learners at the Confucius Institute in Cape Verde.Therefore,this study used questionnaire surveys and one-on-one interviews to collect relevant data,analyze the motivation of Cape Verde middle school students to learn Chinese,and provide a feasible teaching strategy for improving Cape Verde student learning motivation.Thesis consists of six chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,which is the research background,significance,current research status at home and abroad,research methods and expected results of the research The second chapter is the development process of Cape Verde education system and Chinese teaching in Cape Verde.Briefly introduced the Cape Verde education system and the promotion of Chinese before and after the establishment of the Confucius Institute in Cape Verde.The third chapter mainly includes the definition,classification and research status of motivation.The fourth chapter is the data collation of the questionnaire,and the relevant motivation theory is used to analyze and study the data.The fifth chapter is to analyze the main factors of Chinese learners ’motivation in Cape Verde and how to adopt corresponding strategies to improve students’ learning motivation.Chapter 6 is the conclusion.It combed the results of this study,pointed out the shortcomings of this study,and the good prospects of Chinese education in Cape Verde.
