This is a translation report on Chapter 2 of Teaching English as an International Language:Implementing,Reviewing, and Re-Envisioning World Englishes in Language Education written by Roby Marlina, which mainly provides a review of the theoretical and empirical literature on teaching English as an International Language(EIL),and then puts forward alternative views of understanding teaching EIL.Class shift is a commonly-used translation method. There are distinct differences between Chinese and English in terms of vocabulary and syntax. In order to make the translation conform to the expression habit of the target language, the class shift has become an inevitable problem in the process of translation. The analysis of the translation report of English teaching texts in the past five years shows that although some scholars have mentioned class shift in their translation reports, their discussion of the class shift is not systematic. At the same time,it is widely used in the translation of scientific and technical texts, legal texts, business texts, and so on.Therefore, based on the translation practice, the author chooses the class shift cases of three kinds of words including nouns, adjectives and prepositions, and then analyzes the application of class shift from the perspective of English and Chinese comparison to conclude the class shift skills of the three kinds of words in the translation of English teaching texts.
