Research On The Entertainment Of Film Subtitle Translation From The Perspective Of The Rewriting Theory

With the development of the information age,people have higher and higher requirements for subtitle translation.Therefore,the phenomenon of entertainment rewriting in film and television subtitle translation came into being.In the process of entertaining translation of film and television subtitles,translators are more inclined to please the audience in the target language country.Therefore,over-entertaining translation often occurs,which makes the words in the film inexpressive and even inconsistent,and greatly reduces the audience's experience in watching the film.Therefore,in the face of the new trend and problems of film and television translation,this paper will conduct an in-depth study from the perspective of rewriting theory.Taking Men in Black 3 and Kingsman: The Golden Circle as examples,this paper compares and studies the praised and criticized subtitle translation from the perspective of rewriting theory,and specifically analyzes the influence of ideology,patronage and poetics on subtitle translation.In terms of ideology,it mainly invovles the social and cultural background of the target language countries which includes that of the target audience.As for the patronage,it mainly considers the commercial interests of the sponsor and the producer.About poetics,it mainly concerns the translator's language aesthetics and the use of grammar.In addition,the author will also analyze common translation strategies applied in the subtitle translation of the two films with the help of three elements from the Rewriting theory,and at the same time,integrate the three elements of the Rewriting Theory to the strategies,so as to make a more detailed and in-depth analysis of the entertainment translation in film subtitles.By making a case study,this paper puts forward several suggestions to subtitle translation,and to a certain extent,sums up the entertainment translation norms: the translator should depend on the specific situation,when the original script is inconsistent with the target language country ideology,or it needs to achieve the humor which embodied in the original script,the translator can use the Rewriting Theory and relevant translation strategies for entertainment.Among these three factors,translators should give priority to ideology due to its wide deep influence on both the target audiences and the patronage.Then it comes patronage and poetic.Therefore,translators can avoid over-entertainment translation when translating film subtitles,so as to achieve a proper “balance” between “faithfulness” and “entertainment”.
