With the development of economy and shipping industry in China, research and translation of maritime-related literature is becoming increasingly important. The original text and translation used in this report is part of the IMO Radar Navigation Model Course 1.08(Management level)”.This represents China's second endeavour in the IMO model course revision program that provides a far further engagement in IMO affairs in terms of development of international maritime standards. Therefore the translation of this model course is of great significance and has far-reaching impact. In the process of translation, long sentence translation is a significant task.It is noted that the translation of the long sentences should strictly follow its characteristics as maritime science and technology literature.Giving due consideration to both its original expression and the expression of the target language, the aim is to achieve accurate and appropriate translation,so that both responses to the translated version and the original message are delivered to the readers of translated texts. This translation practice, under the guidance of Skopos Theory takes "reverse translation" and "split translation" as the strategies to translate the sampled long sentences.Detailed analysis of the selected cases regarding the application of these strategies in the translation might provide some valuable information for similar work in this area in the future.
