A Study On The Creation Of Shi Yan,A Dramatist Of The Qing Dynasty

Shi Yan(1698?-1774?)was born in Wu county,Suzhou,and was a dramatist in the Qing dynasty.He wrote more than 20 operas in his life,and now there are five works.His drama Marriage for Peace is known as Marriage for Peace the earliest prototype.He was at the time of the battle of flower and elegance,when Kun opera was performed in his hometown of Wu county.Therefore,his dramas must be stamped with the brand of The Times,with the characteristics of integration of flower and elegance.However,there are few records of his operas among the literati throughout the ages.Therefore,the author hopes to explore the reasons behind this contradiction and the social characteristics behind the characteristics of Shi Yan's dramas by analyzing his existing texts.On the basis of analyzing the life of Shi Yan and the background of his creation,this paper studies the historical features of the integration of flower and elegant as well as the ideological content embodied in his works.In addition,this paper compares his dramas Brocade Pavilion and Marriage for Peace with Li Yu's Wrong Kite and Tang Xianzu's Peony Pavilion,in order to judge whether Zhang Peng's evaluation is accurate.The structure of the article is as follows:The first chapter is to introduce the life and works of Shi Yan,analyze the social and historical background of Shi Yan,and grasp the author's original intention.In the second chapter,from five aspects of theme,characters,language,roles and actions,this paper expounds the starting point of his works to reflect on history,face up to reality,enlighten people and advocate loyalty and filial piety;and reveals his value orientation of criticizing the aristocracy and praising the common people through the characterization of the characters and the use of language in his works.In order to arouse the readers' interest in the study of ancient opera stage performance,the actions,which are abundant in the script and rare in the classical opera,are systematically classified.The third chapter focuses on the analysis of the unique female images in the works of Shi Yan,and tries to explain that the reasons for the phenomenon of “women are strong and men are weak” are the comprehensive results of family environment,historical evolution of opera and economic development.In the fourth chapter,the opera works of Shi Yan is compared with Peony Pavilion and Wrong Kite.to judge whether “Far away,like a fairy;up close,looked like a fisherman” is merely a fictitious reputation.The conclusion is drawn that Shi Yan's opera is different from the works of Tang Xianzu and Li Yu in terms of ideological content and artistic techniques: although his opera is compact in conception and plot twists and turns,his works are not deep enough in thinking,and the dramatic contents are bizarre and not in line with the reality of life..
