The Effect Of Self-objectification Level On Female Objectifying Fixation And Attention Bias

The sexual objectification theory points out,when face sexual objectifying environment,self-objectification women are easily to internalize the thoughts of sexual objectification,and adopt the point of view of the observer,which makes women keep a watchful eye on and evaluate women's body.The most commonest behavior is objectifying gaze.The objectifying gaze appear as more fouse on women's sexual body parts,such as chest,waist,hip,but not their face.Because of the social desirability and complexity of behavior,the objectifying gaze is hard to be observed in laboratory.Besides,there is attentional bias behinds the objectifying gaze.A lot of research have proved that,negative physical cognition individuals and normal individuals have different attentional bias towards body-related information.Then is there difference between self-objectification women and normal individuals? We use two experiments to obseve the objectifying gaze and the attentional bias of different level self-objectification women.Study 1 utilized an eye-tracking device to explore the objectifying gaze of different level self-objectification women.Study 2 utilized dot-probe task to explore the attentional bias of different level self-objectification women.The conclusions of this study are as follows:Compared with non-sexual objectified women,sexual objectified women got more Objectifying gaze.The degree of self-objectification plays a role.For low self-objectified women,there was no significant difference in gaze pattern between the two female images.For high self-objectified women,when viewing pictures of the two kinds of women,there were significantly different: compared with the non-objectified women,high self-objectified women gazed at the objectified women more quickly and produced more objectifying fixation.They look at the face for less time and have fewer fixation points.The attention bias of female images occurred in the attention orienting.Compared with low self-objectified women,high self-objectified women attention orienting of female pictures is faster;Compared with objectified women images,Low self objectified women's attention orienting to non-objectified women images is faster.
