With rapid develop of intercultural communication between China and foreign countries,an increasing number of foreign excellent works of children's literature have flooded into China and the need for relevant translation grows sharply.However,children's literature translation in China does not receive adequate attention and needs to be perfected in both translation practices and theoretical studies.In this context,it is necessary to conduct further studies on children's literature translation.In this practice report,the major translation problems in the English-Chinese translation project of Prince Caspian are classified,and corresponding solutions to those problems are explored under the guidance of Translation Variation Theory.Specifically,the translation problems refer to inappropriate handling of language features;unnaturalness caused by linguistic properties;and imperfect information transmission of proper nouns.Under the guidance of Translation Variation Theory,the author finds that the translation problems can be effectively solved by adopting the following translation variation strategies:(1)“addition” and “reduction” are employed to make the translation more vivid,concise and understandable;(2)the application of “adaptation” and “combination” makes the logic of the translation more clear,thereby reducing the reading burden of the target readers;(3)the application of “addition” and “adaptation” makes the information of the translated text more complete and the language of the translated text more close to the expression habits of the target readers,thereby enhancing the readability of the translated text.The comprehensive application of various translation variation strategies is conducive to improving translators' translation performance and improving translation quality in this field.Besides,this practice report can provide some reference for MTI(Master of Translation and Interpreting)teaching and further enrich the research of children's literature translation.
