Assessment On C-E Translation Of Annual Report On Culture Of Shaanxi (2018) Based On House's Translation Quality Assessment Model

Translation of Annual Report on Culture of Shaanxi(2018)(Blue Book of Shaanxi)kept pace with the progress of “going abroad”,since attentions from all over the world have been paid to Shaanxi Province,the starting point of the Silk Road.Pishu's translation quality also attracts much more attention.This report takes the C-E translation of Blue Book of Shaanxi as a case study to explore the problems encountered in the translation process of culture report and tries to put forward solutions to deal with such problems under the guidance of House's translation quality assessment(TQA)model.Blue Book of Shaanxi primarily is a context-focused text,with rich cultural information.Typical translation problems founded in the translation process can be classified into following three categories.First,at the lexical level,1)inadequate information for culture-loaded words,namely,fails to convey connotative information of lintel inscriptions,proverbs and characteristic terms;and 2)lacks of explanation for proper nouns,namely,fails to provide compensation for names of ancient cities,historical figures.Second,at the syntactic level,problems are 1)translation of non-subject sentence;and 2)illogical sentence structure.Third,at the textual level,problems mainly are 1)poor cohesion and coherence of discourse;and 2)unnecessary information convey.Through analyzing the ST from perspectives of register and genre in the light of the House's TQA model,translation methods such as annotation,division,omission,addition,edition and reconstructing are put forward to solve such translation problems and achieve functional equivalence between the ST and TT.The translation strategies and methods employed here are helpful to improve translation quality of such texts,promoting Pishu's “going global” process and communication effect.
