The Study On The Application Of Presupposition Triggers In The Headlines Of People’s Daily

Presupposition is the pragmatic premise of sentences expressed,Certain words or structures in a language have the ability to trigger presupposition.This thesis has analyzed the function of presupposition trigger.By doing this,many syntactic and semantic differences can be explained reasonably and effectively.This study is divided into two parts: theoretical statement and case analysis.On the basis of the research of domestic and foreign scholars,the characteristics of presupposition trigger has been analyzed in the theoretical discussion part.And the case analysis part is based on the theories.The semantic characteristics and functions of presupposition trigger of Chinese verb and adverb presupposition are studied and compared in detail.This thesis is divided into three chapters:The first chapter is an overview of presupposition and presupposition triggers.This thesis mainly introduced the concept of presupposition and the study of presupposition and presupposition trigger in abroad from 1960’s to 80’s of last century after Frege put forward the concept of "presupposition" in 1892.Chapter Two is the core of this thesis.By collecting and sorting out the presupposition triggers in the titles of People’s Daily,the presupposition triggers in Chinese language are discussed in detail.Presupposition triggers can be divided into four categories according to their functions: opposite variant presupposition triggers,existence presupposition triggers,repetitive presupposition triggers and factual presupposition triggers.Each of them has its own characteristics.Through contrastive analysis and comprehensive use of Chinese research results,the presupposition triggers of verb and adverb are analyzed and discussed.The third chapter is the analysis of trigger mechanism of presuppositiontrigger.From the semantic and cognitive point of view,the exploration is carried out respectively.Metaphor and metonymy in human cognition are the ways for presupposition trigger to work.The final is the conclusion.This chapter makes a summary of the full text by pointing out the main conclusions of the paper.At the same time,the paper also has the shortcomings,and the need to continue in-depth research in the future.This thesis is limited by the selected materials and lacks the investigation on the Chinese discourse level.Presupposition triggers,which appear in more complex contexts,are also worthy of further exploration.
