A Report On The Translation Of The Wealth Of Networks (Chapter One)

In view of the development of science and technology,networked information economy allows more possibilities for people in the world.People can enjoy much convenience in their lives,study and work amid the context of the networked information economy.In order to adjust the lifestyles in the networked information economy,it's indispensable for people to have a grip on the knowledge of networked information economy.The translation project is based on the translation of the first chapter of Yochai Benkler's The Wealth of Networks.The chapter discusses that in the context of networked information economy,social production can have a profound effect on markets and freedom;individual freedom can provide infinite possibilities to technology,economy and society;the policies in industrial information economy are no longer suitable for the economy in a new era.The translation practice employs Nida's Functional Equivalence as the guiding theory and applies various translation techniques to solve the difficulties.On the lexical level,the translator refers to relevant literature and parallel texts and adds necessary explanation to translate the technical terms in the source text.On the syntactic level,the translator chooses these translation techniques-division,restructuring,amplification,omission and conversion to solve the translation of long and complicated sentences in the source text.This report includes four chapters.Chapter one introduces the background and significance of the translation project.Chapter two analyzes the contents and features of the source text.The third chapter discusses the translation process,the translation difficulties and the specific solutions to the difficulties.And the last chapter is the conclusion of this report.
