In the 1990 s,the Chinese market mechanism was transformed from a planned economy to a market economy.The gradual establishment of market mechanism has reconstructed Chinese basic social operation mechanism and changed Chinese existing cultural form.With the rapid development of economy,a number of vulnerable groups living in social transformation have emerged.Based on such a social reality,it raises new questions about artistic creation—in what form of art reproduces social transformation.The New Records Movement was born under this social background.The New Records Movement takes the marginal groups of society as the object of filming,with calm and objective documentary language,it aims at the small figures submerged in the mainstream discourse,reappears the social changes at the macro level with their realistic destiny and life scenes,and examines the changes of history.The film attempts to present the reality of the elderly,on the one hand,expressing his economic poverty,on the other hand revealing his self-sufficient spiritual world,and trying to express the underlying social demands for a dignified life world.The New Records Movement provides a detailed understanding of the reality of social transformation and historical changes from the life scenes of small people,which provides a narrative basis for the film.The film absorbs the artistic tradition of the New Record Movement,with the help of the scavenger old man and his true story,the combination of oral history and past paintings connects the fate of the characters with the times and shows the reality of this typical character.The conflicts and compromises between the spiritual worlds seek to explore the practical significance of the underlying dignity in the current social context.Based on the analysis of the development and research status of Chinese Independent Documentary,the article combines the content of the film to elaborate.This paper analyses the film from three aspects: theme selection,narrative mode and post-production,and explores the theory and practice of documentary film by case interpretation.
