The booming Chinese tourism industry gives rise to the phenomenon that an increasing number of introductions to scenic spots have been translated into English, which plays an essential role in introducing and spreading Chinese culture. However, many current translations of the introductions to scenic spots have various problems. In this context, the author participated in the project of Chinese-English(C-E)translation of Tibetan scenic spots introduction organized by the Tibet tourism bureau. This report is based on the author’s translation practice. The author sorted out six problems at three levels.Specifically, they include:(1)Problems at lexical level: failure to compensate cultural information for culture-loaded words and inadequate contextual information for proper nouns;(2)Problems at syntactic level: lack of subject and illogical sentence order;(3)Problems at discourse level: lack of cohesion and conveying unnecessary information.Guided by the relevance theory, this report proposes solutions from two perspectives of relevance theory.(1)From the perspective of providing adequate contextual effects, the specific translation methods are annotation, paraphrase and addition;(2)from the perspective of reducing unnecessary processing efforts, the specific translation methods are replacement, reorganization and deletion. The author expects that the research findings of this report can provide some inspirations and references for the C-E translation of tourism texts.
