The appropriate words of state leaders,government officials,especially foreign ministry spokesmen on diplomatic occasions are usually called diplomatic language.At present,domestic academia generally studies on Chinese diplomacy from the perspectives of foreign policy,diplomatic strategy and major power relations.Diplomatic language is worthy of systematic study from vocabulary,grammar and rhetoric.From the perspective of cultural linguistics,the author takes the statements of the spokesperson of the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the linguistic data,analyzes the relevant vocabulary,grammar and rhetoric phenomena,explains the relationship between these phenomena and culture,and thus explains its causes.The thesis is divided into five parts.The introduction is about the origin of the subject,the research review,the significance and value of the research,source of the corpus and the research methods.The first chapter is an overview of the diplomatic language,including the concept of spokesman,the origin and development of the spokesman system and the concept and characteristics of diplomatic language.The second chapter mainly analyzes the vocabulary of diplomatic language since the 18 th CPC National Congress including words and idioms.The third chapter mainly analyzes the grammar of diplomatic language since the 18 th CPC National Congress including the main types of sentence patterns and complex sentences.The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the rhetoric of diplomatic language since the 18 th CPC National Congress.It includes the tempering of rhetoric and words.The fifth chapter mainly analyzes the relationship between diplomatic language and culture since the 18 th CPC National Congress including social enviroment,foreign policy and national spitit.
