With the deepening of reform and opening-up and the rapid development of Belt and Road Initiative,China has closer economic, political and cultural ties with other countries in the world and expressions with Chinese characteristics gradually entered the English language.Nowadays, many culture-loaded words have entered into The Oxford English Dictionary in the form of Pinyin.Meanwhile,a number of culture-loaded words directly translated into Chinese Pinyin are included on the T100 list in the Report on Overseas Cognition of Chinese Expressions released by China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration in 2018.Therefore,it is necessary to study the use of transliteration of culture-loaded words. However, the literature on sight interpreting mainly focuses on the fluency in sight interpreting, the role of sight interpreting in Consecutive Interpreting and Simultaneous Interpreting,no study on the use of transliteration in sight interpreting is found. This paper studies the transliteration of culture-loaded words in Chinese-English sight interpreting with the help of sight-interpreting test and follow-up interview.46 postgraduates from different grades and majors of Dalian University of Technology participated in the survey. They complete on-site interpreting of the passage containing culture-loaded words, then finish the follow-up interview. The interpreting and the interview are audio recorded and processed by Sojump.SPSS is used to do the statistics analyses. The test results show that the choice of transliteration for culture-loaded words is influenced by the particularity of culture-loaded words themselves and majors of the participants in the sight interpreting, but in general, the student interpreters tend to use transliteration in the sight interpreting of culture-loaded words. The interview results show that student interpreters have a positive attitude towards the transliteration of culture-loaded words. At the same time,it is found that there is a gap between the cognition of the use of transliteration by student interpreters and the actual use of transliteration of Chinese culture-loaded words in the English language.
