The study on the professional life of editors in Shanghai during the Republic of China is an interdisciplinary field of social life history and editing history in modern Shanghai.On the basis of previous studies,this paper intends to elaborate on the incone and expenditure,work-based interpersonal network and mutual influence of Shanghai's book and magazine editors,and further analyze the relationship between the survival situation of book and magazine editors and the development of modern Shanghai society.From the perspective of income and expenditure of the editorial-group,influenced by the educational background,professional knowledge and social experience,the editorial group presents two income groups,the upper and lower middle income groups,thus forming obvious consumption level differences within the group.In terms of their interpersonal relationship,editors communicate with people from all walks of life through a variety of interpersonal communication methods,and build two social networks of “introversion and extension” and “extroversion and extension”,which provide convenience for editing work.From the analysis of the mutual influence between the income and expenditure of books and periodicals editors and the formation of interpersonal network:first,the salary level of the editor group reflects the difference of the status of editors,and then affects the quality of their interpersonal circle;The content and level of consumption have a guiding effect on the choice of interpersonal communication.Second,in the period of the republic of China,the social mobility was strengthened,and the traditional social network could not meet the needs of editors.The new interpersonal network based on the academic background anf professional and consumption content enrichment of the editors.On the one hand,the continous development of modern society in Shanghai from 1912 to 1937 guaranteed the income of editors,enriched the content of editing consumption,and editors were able to expand their interpersonal relationship in various fields through group network,which consolidated the position of Shanghai as the national publishing center.On the other hand,the higher salary level of the editor group is conductive to the career choice of intellectuals.The editors' novel consumption consciousness and diverse consumption contents have played an important role in the formation of Chinese consumption culture and the trend of social development.
