The relationship between art and life is an important part of the concept of art."Imitation theory" formed on this basis is the oldest concept of art in the west.Traditional theory of imitation suggests that art originates from life and imitates life.Wilde questioned and challenged this, holding the view that "life imitates art far more than art imitates life",thus putting forward the "reverse theory".Wilde's "reverse theory" was deeply influenced by aestheticism, and advocated "art for art's sake" in the theory of art generation. However,he did not completely separate art from life, and adored "living like art" and "artistry of life" in the function of art.Wilde's "inversion theory" is not an overnight fantasy, but with a profound historical origin and the background.German classical aesthetics is the most important theoretical source of its formation, and the historical background of aestheticism is also the main reason for its subversion. In addition,Wilde's personal family atmosphere and learning experience also have an important impact on the formation of his subversive thoughts. These external factors provide the possibility for the establishment of the "reverse theory",but the internal logical composition of the "reverse theory" is the decisive factor. This article will base on the internal factors of the establishment of“reverse theory” to explore the specific connotation of art and life in different theories,It will investigate the reasonability of “reverse theory”from the perspective of the real world's present existence and anti-purposiveness and the art world's creativity and purposiveness.,At the same time,by analyzing the relationship of Oscar Wilde's other theories, the dissertation will enrich the theoretical connotation of“reverse theory”.
