The Prelude Three is the only piano solo by George Gershwin. It has its unique significance in the history of piano. It is also the work that I learned during the postgraduate study and played at the graduation concert. This paper will start from the author’s own learning point of view and mainly write about the author’s own learning process and experience. The content includes understanding the work, music analysis, practice, repeating key points of the work, memorization, research on playing techniques and final concert performance. The main methods used in the research are literature analysis, content analysis and self-practice analysis. The first part mainly summarizes the literature, briefly introduces the author and the works, and then gives a brief analysis of the musical structure, mode, tonality, characteristic harmony of the work. The second part is the core part of the paper.According to the experience summarized from the author’s practice, the second part describes how to grasp the characteristics of the work, how to show the unique style of the work and final process of the music from the perspective of how-do-I-do rather than how-to-do.The third part is about the whole process of the graduation concert and involves the adjustment before the concert along with the reflection and summary after the concert. The purpose of this paper is to provide ideas of practice and make references for people who will play the work.
