The wave of Eileen Chang Study since 1980 s at home and abroad has prompted reading Zhang Ailing to become a valuable clue to explore modern and contemporary urban culture and Modernity of China.Among them, there are numerous studies on Eileen Chang's literary works, however studies on her film scripts are relatively small.Eileen Chang's film script writing could be divided into two important periods: Shanghai period and Hong Kong period.Compared with the period of Shanghai, her Hong Kong-era film works are still seldom studied in the academic circles for various reasons,in 2010,with the publication of two collections of Eileen Chang's films and literary works by Beijing October Literature and Art Press, her film scripts of Hong Kong period gradually entered the vision of the study of Eileen Chang.Based on this, this study focuses on Eileen Chang's Hong Kong period to explore the key issue: whether Eileen Chang's Hong Kong era scripts are totally different from her literature and her Shanghai era script writing? In other words, could we find any typical aesthetics of Eileen Chang in her script writings for the motion pictures?Based on this question, this research considers the concepts of "temporality" and "affect" as the entrance to understand Eileen Chang's personal character, explore the presentation of the two in her film scripts during the Hong Kong period, and to try to find out how the two can be connected in Eileen Chang's film scripts during this period. Therefore, this paper will be divided into four parts. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly introduces the background, significance and literature review of this research. The second chapter will try to describe the concepts of temporality and affect from the theoretical framework,as well as their presentation in Eileen Chang's literary works and Shanghai Wenhua period works. The third chapter will focus on the temporality presented in Eileen Chang's works during the period of motion pictures;the last chapter will explore the affect generated by temporality in Eileen Chang's script writing based on chapter three.
