Susan Berk-Seligson's masterpiece—The Bilingual Courtroom: Court Interpreters in the Judicial Process, the first edition of which was published in 1990,embraced its second edition in 2017.The Bilingual Courtroom mainly revolves around English-Spanish bilingual courtroom in America where interpreting services, especially English-Spanish interpreting services,in courtroom are greatly needed. This book, with abundant experimental designs and cases, sheds light on the significance of the court interpreter's role.Compared to the first edition of the book, the new edition incorporates significant research findings that have come to the fore since 2012.The translation of the whole book is a group work where the translator is responsible for Chapter Six and Seven. This report consists of four parts. The first part is task description in which the translator first describes the background of the translation task and then lays the emphasis on the source text itself, introducing its text type and features. In the second part, the translator describes the translation process which entails the selection of parallel texts and translation tools,as well as the translation schedule and the quality control. The third part of this report, based on the analyses of the source text from lexical, syntactic and rhetorical levels, sheds light on the disparities in linguistic conventions between Chinese and English, and offers suggestions for future translations of academic legal texts. The fourth part is conclusion in which the translator summarizes the major findings, considers the implications after the translation, makes introspections about the limitations and then gives suggestions for further studies. In short, both the two chapters of The Bilingual Courtroom are of great academic significance and the translator sincerely hopes that the translation project will be of some value for court interpreters, attorneys and linguists who are intrigued by legal settings in China.
