This report is on the translation project of the text book Introduction to Communications Technologies(chapters 11 to 13),the third edition published by CRC Press under the Taylor & Francis Group in 2016.The report describes the overall process of the project and explains the remarkable difficulties found during the process, namely the complex sentence structures such as relative clause and adverbial clause found in the source text. These structures have often been difficult for translators who deal with the translation of IT-related texts. With a solid analysis of the source text,a wide range of translation skills such as splitting, omission and amplification have been used under the theory of parataxis, hypotaxis and explicitation to handle the long and complex sentences. These hypotactic structures have been grouped into several categories on which a detailed case study has been based.Hopefully, the conclusions drawn may help to ensure technical accuracy while maintaining readability for the Chinese audience.
