Qatun(可敦) is the most respected spouse of Qahan(可汗)who is the supreme ruler of the Northern minority.The Qatun system is related to the Qahan system and both of each establish in Rouran period.With the development in Turk,Uyghur and Mongolia,the Qatun system has taken some changes.The Qatun in Rouran is different from the Northern Wei Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty,because the Queen has replaced the Qatun.In Turk period,the Qatun begin to change.On the one hand,the Qahan can marry several Qatun at the same time.Besides,the Da has used to distinguish the Qahans` spouse.On the other hand,the Qatun has also adopted in turkic vassal states and tribes,which means the Qatun is an overgeneralization.When comes to the Uyhur period,the phenomenon of Qatun exists simultaneously become more common.At the same time,a new titular,Shao Qatun,has emerged,which is adopted to distinguish the seniors and juniors from Qatuns.And these are transitions to Mongolia.The Qatun system in the Northern minoriy has it`s own development model,which is related to the political situation between Hu and Han.The Han people has misunderstand the Qatun system,because they on the basis of their owns` position to regard the Qatun.Chinese ancient documents seldom call the princess Qatun,even they don`t taken notes on the Qatun who belong to the Northern minoriy.So we should have detailed understanding of social background at that time.The Queen of the Han people is different from the Qatun of the Northern minoriy.But we can better understand the Qatun system,when we compare the Qatun with the Queen.
