Shanghai school of painting is a significant and far-reaching art school in Chinese modern art history.Its appearance changed the Chinese figure painting art which had been depressed since the yuan dynasty,many painters such as Ren Xiong?Ren Bonian?Xu Gu contribute to the revival of the figure painting,but Qian Hui'an as origin of Shanghai figure painting,is seldom mentioned in the art history,his figure painting is a blend of traditional culture and folk rural breath,and draw lessons from western painting elements,present a novel appearance,has the reputation of "Qian School" and a lot of followers,especially have significant contributions to the development of folk pictures,because of his humility,he rarely participate in social activities,nor write biography,Therefore,it is a pity that his fame has gradually fallen into obscurity after his death.This paper is divided into six chapters to make a comprehensive exposition of his figure painting art.The first chapter is the introduction,introduces the research purpose and significance,research status,research methods and innovation points of this paper;The second chapter takes time as a clue to introduce the life of Qian Hui'an,and divides his art development process into early stage and late stage;The third chapter introduces the social background of the formation of the figure painting of "Qian School",focusing on the social,political,economic and cultural conditions after the opening of Shanghai,and discusses the ideas and activities of artists in the social environment,elaborate Qian's learning and the influence of Shanghai style painting on his painting style;The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the artistic characteristics of his figure painting,and discusses the form of his work from three aspects,including the theme and modeling,the use of pen and color,the arrangement and layout,it mainly introduces his communication with the New Year paintings of Yangliuqing as a professional painter,and analyzes the integration of Chinese and western works,the characteristics of self-portrait and the appreciation of both refined and popular;The fifth chapter introduces the influence and social evaluation of Qian hui'an's figure painting.The sixth chapter,based on his adherence to traditional painting in his works,suggests that the painting circle should still attach importance totradition and not give up.In addition,his professional identity and secularization style led to different comments on him in the art circle at that time and later,which can provide a glimpse of the historical and realistic confusion faced by professional painters in China.
