Since the establishment of Moscow,the relevant historical records are not only recorded in the annals of history,but also founded in many folk myths and legends.The unique mystical thinking,which combines history and mythology,has made Russian writers pay attention to the folk myths and legends of Moscow.Based on Moscow history and social development trend,they have created various myths about Moscow.As one of the most representative writers in the history of Russian literature,Mikhail Afanasiyevich Bulgakov has fully developed the theme of Moscow's modern mythology,especially in his last novel ?The Master and Margarita?.Bulgakov based on the Moscow's history and social reality,interpreted the history and real life of Moscow in 1920 s and 1930 s from his unique perspective,combined the perception of human spiritual predicament with religious mysticism,deduced the “Second Babylon” myth of Moscow in the last time,reflected various problems and contradictions arising in the process of social development.Using the methods of mythological and archetypal criticism,social history and cultura historical culture criticism and biographical impressionism criticism,the thesis firstly discusses the historical process and literary basis of modern myth about Moscow,and sorts out the image of Moscow in Russian literature.Secondly,combining with the real life in Moscow,proceeds research with the religious mysticism world view of Bulgakov and the inheritance of Gogol's religious mysticism tradition,analyzes the origins of modern myths of Moscow in the writer's literary works.Finally,focuses on the novel ?The Master and Margarita?,explains the features of Moscow's modern mythological characters and the symbolic meaning of Moscow's modern mythology,and embodies apocalyptic complex of the writer and the expectations of Russia's future spiritual road.
