A successful film is inseparable from the shaping of female images.Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige belong to the fifth generation of Chinese directors.Although they are different in director style,they both create many classic female images in their films.This article is divided into introduction,text and epilogue three parts.The author will combine the films of Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige to compare and investigate the female images in their films.The introduction mainly introduces the topic backgroud,the research status,the research content and significance,and research methods.The text is mainly divided into three parts.The first is a comparison of the images of chivalrous women in Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige’s films.As a unique Chinese film type,swordsmen film is highly regarded among Chinese directors.Martial arts is an external form of expression that can attract the attention of the audience.While justice and morality are the core of swordsmen film,which can influence people’s hearts.Heroes are generally kind,brave,full of justice,and helpful.Female heroes often appear as important characters in swordsmen film.Therefore,this chapter will select "Fei Xue" in Zhang Yimou’s "Hero" and "Mrs.Zhao" in Chen Kaige’s "The Emperor and the Assassin",which will be compared and analyzed fromthe aspects of personal character,shaping method and spiritual intension.The second is a comparison of the rebellious female images in Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige’s films.Affected by the traditional feudal ethics system,there are many constraints stuck on women since ancient times in China.Chinese traditional women need to abide by the rules,and it is difficult to break free from the shackles of social public opinion and ethics.Therefore,the image of women who rebel against tradition is even more impressive.In this chapter,"Jiu Er" in Zhang Yimou’s "Red Sorghum" and "Ru Yi" in Chen Kaige’s "Temptress Moon" will be compared and analyzed from the aspects of personal character,shaping method and spiritual intension.The third is a comparison of the image of military prostitutes in Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige’s film.Throughout ancient times,not only "the Four Famous Prostitutes" but also "the Eight Prostitutes in Qinhuai" are the praise of prostitutes,many writers wrote poetry for prostitutes.Nowadays,we often find the image of a prostitute in movies.Therefore,"Yu Mo" in Zhang Yimou’s "The Flowers of War" and "Ju Xian" in Chen Kaige’s "Farewell My Concubinee" will be compared in terms of personal character,shaping method and spiritual intension in this chapter.The epilogue part summarizes their unique in creations by briefly summarizing the creative methods of famale images in Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige’s films,and provides creative experience for film andtelevision workers.
