This paper is based on the author's participation in the 2018 Hunan TV's grand music program Singer in Changsha,Hunan Province.The music program lasted for more than four months,which provided author with great practical experience.The author was honored and responsible for the audiovisual translation of interview videos of three musicians.Thus,the translating materials mainly come from the video clips and location shooting of the British singer Jessie J,the Hong Kong singer Zhang Tian,and the Philippine singer KZ(Tan Ding'an).The author translated and analyzed the source text and the translated text based on the interview provided by the Hunan TV.Besides,the author was also trained to utilize Final Cut Pro and other professional software to edit the subtitle and synchronize the sound track.The primary focus of this paper is the verbal and non-verbal ostensive inference in audiovisual translation.This paper puts emphasis on exploring what can translators do to enable the audiences to completely understand the speakers' speeches with minimal effort.The author analyzes the verbal and non-verbal ostensive signals in the interview videos with great details,proposing three translation strategies based on the interview and providing viable suggestions for audiovisual translation tasks and the like in the future.This paper mainly includes four parts: the description of audiovisual translation task,an introduction of relevance theory,case analysis and practical experience.The task description is a brief introduction to the Singer's audiovisual translation task.The introduction of relevance theory provides the theoretical support.The process description focuses on the pre-translation preparation and on-site description of this audiovisual translation task.The case analysis serves as the main body of this paper.The author utilizes specific cases to carefully analyze the types of verbal and non-verbal ostensive signals in the process of audiovisual translation and offer the viable translation strategies.The last chapter is a review of the advantages and disadvantages and experience of this audiovisual translation practice.Through the comprehensive analysis,this paper primarily draws the following conclusions: to begin with,the types of verbal and non-verbal ostensive signals in audiovisual translation includes lengthy sentence,metaphor,meaningless sounds,facial expression and etc.;next,useful translation strategies,such as compression,addition,and explicitation of metaphor,are required to allow the audiences to understand the point of view by speakers with minimal effort;moreover,MTI students should improve their translating abilities with the goal of improving their own translating quality in a bid to perform better in challenging audiovisual translation tasks with high quality.
