At the end of Qing dynasty,Shanghai's prosperity set a foundation for rise of Shanghai Picture Faction.Those painters that didn't limit to tradition comprised the Shanghai Picture Faction.To please commodity society,many characteristics not only on the subject but also on the form of paintings were appeared.Art form was divided into inner structure and explicit artistic language.And the form characteristics of the Shanghai Picture Faction mainly showed in three aspects: composition,brush-and-ink,and color.Common denominators in the Shanghai Picture Faction were the basis of the faction formed,e.g.clear ages feeling,obvious commodity nature,facetiae,absorbing the art language of western painting.Whereas every painter had got their own character,temperament and art experiences,the difference among painters was inevitable.We need investigate representative painters comprehensively to better know the Shanghai Picture Faction.In this paper,we expounded form languages of enjoyable bird and flower paintings in brush-and-ink,colors,figure,and composition at macro level and take Zhao Zhiqian,Wu Changshuo,Ren Bonian,Xugu as representative artists of the Shanghai Picture Faction to analyze emphatically form features in their works.Form languages of each painter are not the same,but they always have some general form characteristics in their works for the common historical background and cultural atmosphere and these general characteristics were reflected prominently in works of some representative artists.Because contents and themes of each painting were different,form languages of them were specific and different.In this paper,we analyzed all the representative enjoyable bird and flower paintings of the representative painters of the Shanghai Picture Faction,and induced the innovation places to elucidate representative features.These features converged on whole form languages in enjoyable bird and flower paintings of the Shanghai Picture Faction: Brush-ink of paintings absorbed mainly the Stele School calligraphy;on the basis of aesthetic taste of Scholars Painting,color of paintings absorbed folk coloring to create a feature of Vulgar Daya;at the same time,some painters actively imported effects of western watercolor paintings to form effects of Chinese-Western merge which accorded with scholars aesthetic interests;objects' images were abstracted and exaggerated to present combination of point,line and plane and geometric modelling phenomenon;it appeared features of density contrast and referring calligraphy characteristic from the aspect of structure on compositionIn chapter one,we mainly reviewed papers about form languages in enjoyable bird and flower painting of the Shanghai Picture Faction.In chapter two,we mainly shows definition,formation,and membership of the Shanghai Picture Faction.So it establish a meticulous,true and reliable subject to study.Additionally,we descripted times and culture backgrounds briefly.In chapter three,we focused on the analysis of realized structure language and interior structure.We studied form languages of the Shanghai Picture Faction through four aspects: brush-and-ink,colors,figure,and composition.In chapter tour,we investigated the influence of the Shanghai Picture Faction.First,we enumerated reference of renowned artists from the Shanghai Picture Faction.And then we enumerated creation methods of the Shanghai Picture Faction to enlighten modern drawing and creation.In chapter five,conclusion.
