A Study Of Shiwei's Fictions With The View Of Christian Culture

As spiritual and cultural phenomena in humans' society,religions and literature share many features in the spiritual effects,the style of thinking,subject to be studied on and so on.Interaction,infiltration and communication between religions and literature are usual states of both.For one thing,religions not only subtly and silently influence the writers' aesthetic interests but also provide the writers with amply resources of thoughts and spirits for creation.For another,to some degree,with its unique aesthetic forms,literature plays an important role in the spread of religions.As an origin of Western civilization,Christianity is a part and an indispensable major branch of Western culture.From the respect of Christian culture,this paper carefully inspects the obvious influence by the Christianity especially the Bible that has qualities of both religion and literature and provides textual resources for the formation of the contents and the artistic creation in the writing of Shi Wei' fiction,analyzes the acceptance,absorption and creative adoption of Christian cultures in the setting of main themes and the narrative styles and rhetorical skills in his fictions.It is worth noting that this paper,although see Christian culture as a systematic viewpoint to observe and analyze Shi Wei's fiction,doesn't view Christianity as the only yardstick of the performance or obstructs the expressions of other qualities in Shi Wei's fictions but regards Christianity as a dimension to study on the positive values in his fictions,explains his achievements in avoiding the homogenization of the contents of the literatures on immigrants,breaking out the perpetuation of writing styles and so on and explores the experience and inspiration to the construction of literatures in Chinese Mainland from the religious dimension in his fictions.Meanwhile this paper points out the problems cause by Shi Wei when he adopts this culture different from the one from China.This paper is divided into three parts which are the introduction,the body and the conclusion.The introduction simply analyzes the origin of the topic,the condition of the research,research methods and innovations,and clarifies the values of the research topics.The body consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces Shi Wei's life and writings at first.And then,it describes the background,the meanings and the features of “spiritual literature”.At last,it clarifies the relations between “Spiritual Literature”,“Devotional Literature” and “Literature of the Spirit” and distinguishes the differences between them.The second chapter discusses the influences by the setting of the themes of Shi Wei's fictions from the perspectives of benevolence,penitence and suffering.The third chapter discusses the interactions between Shi Wei's fictions and the Bible from the perspectives of the original images,narrative styles and relevant words.The fourth chapter analyzes the absorption of rhetorical devices in Shi Wei's fictions borrowed from the Bible from the perspective of rhetoric.The conclusion summarizes the great significance of Christian culture for Shi Wei's writing;Christian culture enriches his fictions with deep religious meanings.Meanwhile,this paper analyzes the comparisons between Shi Wei's writings and the Literatures of New Immigrants and literatures of Chinese Mainland and gain and loss of his writings.
