Due to its special literature mode, foreign detective fiction has been welcomed and favored by the Chinese readers since the end of the Qing Dynasty.During the developing process of foreign detective fiction,Agatha Christie, the renowned and well-known detective novelist of UK,became gradually known to the Chinese readers.Hence, focusing on the two Chinese versions of the Murder of the Orient Express, the thesis mainly discusses their differences through the perspective and viewpoints of the Skopos Theory based on the Three Principles: purposes, coherence and faithfulness.Additionally, the thesis emphasizes the perspective of the translators and their purposes, and analyzes their translation strategies to discuss the factors which have caused differences between the two Chinese versions through combining the Three Principles with the contents.Through the research, the thesis shows that the two Chinese versions own different characteristics owing to different translator's factors and translation strategies. From the perspective of purposes, the version by Chen Yaoguang is inclined to translate the original text from the perspective of domestication, furthermore, his version contains many written words, and some of them are obscure owing to his personal background and the publishing time, while the version by Zheng Qiao,is inclined to translate the novel from the perspective of foreignization due to the purposes of publicizing and promoting the Chinese versions of the detective fictions to meet the demand of readers in modern society. From the perspective of coherence,Chen Yaoguang partly chooses to translate in accordance with the sequences of the text, while Zhen Qiao translates in a more flexible way. From the perspective of faithfulness,Chen Yaoguang chooses the strategy of domestication, while Zhenqiao translates from the perspective of foreignization.Through the comparison of two Chinese versions, the thesis summarizes their differences so as to provide a reference for researchers and fans of English detective fiction.
