Ethnic identity is crucial to students' development because a positive ethnic identity can help them enhance self-esteem and have healthy psychology. In recent years,an increasing number of Chinese student affairs educators have realized the significance of ethnic identity.Based on this, the author decides to translate Student Development in College: Theory,Research, and Practice(Chapter 6),hoping to provide more reference to Chinese student affairs management.Student Development in College: Theory,Research, and Practice(Chapter 6)is an informative text which contains professional terminologies and complex syntactic structures. When translating the source text, the author intends to not only make the target text idiomatic and smooth but also reduce the information loss to a large extent. In such case, the author applies Peter Newmark's communicative translation as the main method and semantic translation as the supplementary method.Besides, various translation techniques and methods are also used in the translating process. The author hopes that this report can provide guidance for other translators when they deal with similar psychological texts.
