In 1980 s,multiple intelligence theory was put forward by Prof.Howard Gardner,the famous psychologist of Harvard University.Everyone can possess several kinds of intelligence.Exploitation and utilization of individual's intelligence advantages can maximize the development of the personal potential.The thesis aims to discuss the English teaching study on vocational art students under the guidance of MI theory.In this thesis,MI theory is combined with English education of vocational art students.Literature study,investigation,experiment and observation methods are used in the teaching design under the guidance of MI theory.In the experiment,60 art students in author's two classes were taken as research subjects.Through the questionnaire survey,it is known that spatial intelligence and interpersonal intelligence are the intelligence strengths of the students in two classes and the linguistic intelligence is their intelligence weakness.Therefore,by taking advantage of students' intelligence strengths,the teaching research design was put forward.In one class(experimental class),the design was adopted,while in the other class(comparative class),the traditional grammar translation teaching method was still in use.Two different teaching processes were presented in the specific teaching case.By the comparative analysis of questionnaire and classroom observation of two classes,two test results before and after the experiment period(one semester)and the performance of the students of two classes in English contests,it is concluded that the application of MI in vocational English teaching can not only arouse students' English study interest but also improve their English learning effect.Last,according to the author's teaching experiment,three principles that teachers should stick to in the teaching under the guidance of MI theory are put forward:(1)Establish student-centered principle.(2)Adhere to the principle of unity of contents and forms of teaching.(3)Follow the principle of combining theory and practice.
