English in secondary vocational schools is an important public foundation course,which plays an important part in enhancing the labors' cultural qualities and cultivating their comprehensive vocational ability.It is universally existed in secondary vocational schools that the students are not interested in English and their English learning is poor and ineffective.So the students of low cultural qualities can't adapt to the social demand of high-quality talents.This phenomenon has much to do with the traditional teaching method.Therefore,the change of English teaching method in secondary vocational schools is necessary and urgent.As an effective foreign language learning method,TPR is widely used in foreign countries.Domestic research focuses on the application of TPR teaching method in children's English while there are a few researches on adults' English especially on secondary vocational English teaching.The author intends to prove the effect of TPR method in secondary vocational English teaching through an empirical study.The experimental subject is two preschool education classes of Grade One from a vocational technical school in Anhui Province.The experiment lasts fourteen weeks.TPR method is used in experiment class.Grammar translation method is used in control class.The teaching effect will be tested by comparing the results of pretest,posttest and English competition between experiment class and control class.The results of questionnaire between two classes will be compared in order to check whether TPR method can arouse the students' interests of learning English.The performance of the two classes in English classes will be compared so as to test whether TPR method can strengthen the students' confidence of learning English,find out the problems existed in experiment class and come up with the suggestions.The experimental results prove that TPR method is better than grammar translation method on teaching effect in secondary vocational schools.TPR teaching method helps to arouse the students' interests and strengthen the students' confidence of learning English.But TPR method has a high requirement of the teachers' comprehensive qualities.The author puts forward some advice according to theexperimental results.Firstly,popularize TPR method,strengthen the teachers' training and set up student-centered teaching concept.Secondly,improve the teachers' professional competence and class management ability.
