Research On The Acceptance Of Dario Fo's Plays In China

Dario Fo,known as a comedy master,is an outstanding dramatist in contemporary Italy.Since Dario Fo won the Noble Prize for Literature in 1997,his works have begun to be familiar to the Chinese people and found favor among them.His plays,characterized with the affinity to the people and acute criticism,cover a wide range of subjects which are presented in various forms.The study of such a great master is very meaningful.However,there is a lot of academic research on him still needed to be done in China.This paper attempts to make up for the shortcomings of existing research results in China by studying the acceptance of Dario Fo's plays in China,and provide some reference for the development of contemporary Chinese literature.The introduction clarified the background of the research,the reasons for choosing this argument,the research significance,the research methods,and the structure;it also summarized the present status of the translation and publication of Dario Fo's works in China,the research situation of relative argument in China and abroad,and the content of the paper.The first chapter made a brief analysis of the features of Dario Fo's plays to find out what in his works is in accord with Chinese social culture,and pointed out that the reasons for the formation of these creation characteristics are the social environment in that time and his personal experience.The second chapter made a detailed analysis of the acceptance of Dario Fo's plays in China.First of all,it explained the reasons why his plays were accepted by Chinese people,including mainly:the development of the era,the change of audience's aesthetic orientation,and the introduction and recommendation of Chinese literary and art workers;Secondly,it took Meng Jinghui's adaptation of Accidental Death of an Anarchist as example,analyzing the acceptance characteristic from four aspects:the story content,the drama language,the spirit of the drama,and the angle of criticism.Finally,it pointed out the influence of Dario Fo on Chinese drama.The third chapter mainly specified the inspiration of this acceptance study on the development of contemporary Chinese literature.For example,literature works should be originated from local people's life and grasp the readers' needs;the government needs to strengthen the cultural construction and nurture talents with professional expertise.The last part is the conclusion which briefly summarized the gist of the paper,affirmed positive influence of Dario Fo's drama in China,and indicated that there is still much room for improvement in the development and dissemination of contemporary Chinese literature.
