The Effect Of Watching Eyes On Honest Behavior

Although honesty is the traditional virtue of the China,untrustworthy behavior in life is everywhere.Inspired by foreign research on watching eye images to promote prosocial behavior,some scholars have also begun to explore the supervision effect of watching eye images on dishonest behavior.However,these scholars have had controversy on the experimental results.Wei Cai et al.'s research shows that the implied reputation clue-watching eye may not reduce dishonesty,while Jolien A.van Breen proves that people may reduce dishonesty through pupil imitation.In view of the fact that there are few studies on watching eyes in China,and there are differences in the influence of foreign practice on honesty,this article will further demonstrate whether watching eyes will affect honest behavior through four studies.Study 1 examines the number of cheating answers under the abstract eye picture and the irregular picture through the scenario test to verify whether the eye images have a monitoring effect on the integrity behavior.Study 2 explores the different numbers of cheating answers in the three lines of sight to verify whether the monitoring effect differs depending on the different sights.Study 3 examines the different effects of seven emotional eyes on honesty behavior,and thus finds the most appropriate emotional eye to reduce dishonesty.The fourth study is to test the results of Study 3 in real situations,and select angry eyes,neutral eyes and no pictures to contrast the different effects.The final conclusion is as follows:(1)In the active deception task,the number of liars of the abstract eye picture is significantly less than that of the irregular picture group,and the score in the record table of the abstract eye group is significantly lower than that of the irregular picture group,indicating that watching eye does reduce dishonest behavior.(2)There were dishonesty behavior in the direct vision group,the strabismus group and the shifting sight group,but the score of the direct vision group was significantly lower than that of the shifting sight group,and the number of liars in the direct vision group was significantly less than that of the shifting sight group.There were no significant differences between the direct and strabismus groups in the scores and liars,but from the trend of the number of liars and scores,the direct group had the fewer liars and the average score was lower.On the gender,the chi-square test found that the number of girls lying in the direct-view group was significantly lower than that in the shifting sight.These results indicate that direct-viewing eyes are more likely to reduce dishonest behavior than diverted eye and strabismus eyes,and are more effective for girls.(3)In the coin throwing task,it is found that the number of the correct answers reported under the angry emotions is lower than the other groups of emotional eyes,indicating that the angry emotions have the greatest effect on the integrity behavior.under the emotions of sadness,fear,and neutral emotions,the number of corrective coins reported is more significant than the rest of the group,indicating that these types of eye images have the worst supervision effect on honest behavior.In addition to angry eyes,disgust emotions,surprise emotions,and positive emotions in turn effectively arouse the self-morality of the participants,which is meant to stimulate honesty.For the discussion of the gender of the subjects,the sadness eye has the worst supervision effect on the honesty behavior of the boys,and the fear and neutral emotions have the worst supervision effect on the girls.In the relationship between personality traits and honesty,the open personality traits of the subjects were positively correlated with the correct number of coins.The pleasant personality traits of the subjects were negatively correlated with the correct number of coins.In other words,the higher the individual's kindness,the lower the openness and the higher level of integrity.(4)In the natural situation,the angry emotional eye picture will produce less lost money than the neutral emotional eye picture and no picture,and the monitoring effect on the dishonest behavior is better.However,the sale under the angry picture is the lowest,and we guess that angry eyes may have a certain negative impact on sale.In general,the male and female students' dorm rooms will produce a shortage of money almost every day,indicating that dishonesty often occurs.Boys have more sales and a big shortage of money than girls in one week.The overall trend of lack of money is consistent with the sales,indicating that individual honesty behavior may reduce due to more profit output.
