There are two public universities in Sabah,Malaysia.which is MARA University of Technology Sabah(UiTM Sabah)and University of Malaysia Sabah(UMS).Both offer Mandarin language courses for non-Chinese students.UMS uses the textbook "Question and Answer:Accelerated Chinese Speaking" published by Peking University Press while UiTM uses the localized textbook "Fundamental Chinese Language"(Book 1,2)published by Xue’er Publishing House.This thesis takes these textbook as the research object to compare the structure of the vocabulary from the aspects of systemic,hierarchical and cohesiveness.Vocabulary is the most important "material" in textbook.The selection and connection of the vocabulary in the textbook affects the student’s interest and achievements in learning.This thesis uses the questionnaire survey method,statistical method,test method and comparative analysis method to sort and summarize the vocabulary compile by these two sets of textbooks,and study the structure of the vocabulary of the textbooks.This thesis has six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.The second chapter briefly introduces the Mandarin courses of the two public universities in Sabah,and also conducts a questionnaire survey on the satisfaction of the students for these two textbooks.The third chapter is about the structure of the vocabulary in textbook,that is,the importance of systemic,hierarchical and cohesive.The forth chapter is the structural of vocabulary analysis of the textbooks,including recurrence rate,words distribution,vocabulary grade and unique words.The fifth chapter analyzes the high,medium and low word frequency vocabulary tests in these two sets of textbooks.In addition to the high acquisition rate of high word frequency,the distribution of vocabulary and unique words in the textbooks will also affect students’ acquisition.The sixth chapter gives a reflection on the lexical structure of these textbooks.Hope that this thesis will provide direction for the vocabulary selection of local Chinese textbooks and provide useful help for teachers and students.
