Desire Writing In The Age Of Abstinence

FanHua is a resurgence masterpiece of Jin Yucheng after more than 20 years of crouching.Through three teenagers of different identities,this novel shows the real desire pursuit of ordinary people in the oppressive and abstinent social environment.However,existing research mainly focus on the following aspects.Firstly,they gave attention to the form of novel research,such as language,narrative structure and the reference of traditional novels.Secondly,they cared about the study of regional culture,such as the revealing of Shanghai civil society and citizen spirit.In the above research,the researchers pay more attention to the clues in the novel in the 1990s,but the research on the time clues in the novels in the 1960s and 1970s is far from enough.In fact,the description of this particular period is more important in the novel,especially the urban experience and desire problems of the "time of abstinence" are less concerned.Therefore,this paper takes "desire" as the breakthrough point to study the writing of the desire of the people in the age of abstinence in the novel.The paper is aimed to explore the reality of Shanghai people’s spiritual and material life in the 1960s and 1970s,to analyze the material and spiritual repression they suffered in their daily life and the real desire of their hearts,and to explore the bold "breaking the ban" behavior of the people in the "age of abstinence".This paper is organized into three chapters for discussion:The first chapter talks about the desire for love and sex of the people in the special period described in the novel.Firstly,it elaborates the overall environment of the times,in which lust is blocked and marriage is influenced by politics.Secondly,it explores the lust appeal in the hearts of the people.This includes the active expression of love between men and women,even bold "over the border" scams in order to satisfy sexual desire.Finally,it describes the way people satisfy their desires.Some people express their inner desires by listening to "old plays" and reading "old books",while others satisfy their sexual desires by peeping and hurting women’s bodies.Chapter two explores the people’s pursuit of material desire in the novel.Firstly,this chapter describes the social material shortage and the monotonous depression of life at that time.Secondly,it shows people’s desire for housing and rich living things.Finally,it explores the action of people’s bold pursuit of material desire after the desire is suppressed.It includes handcrafting and even stealing other people’s property to satisfy the pursuit of material desire.The third chapter discusses the isolation between relatives and friends in the novel and the desire of the people for warmth.Firstly,the alienated neighbourhood relationship is discussed.Neighbours are "visitors" and "peepers" of each other’s lives.Secondly,the loss and existence of family affection,including the absenee of father’s love and the mutual help of family members,are shown.At the same time,it describes a valuable friendship in a high-pressure environment.Finally,it explores the real human relationship emotional appeal of people at that time,and the deep desire for human warmth.From the perspective of desire,this paper analyzes the true inner thirst and complicated state of mind of the ordinary people in the special period of the 60s and 70s of FanHua,trying to reveal the inner desires that people still cannot extinguish in the social environment of depression and abstinence.Through the recourse of the history of desire in the 1960s and 1970s,this paper seeks to see the history of desire in this era of abstinence.The research perspective of the history of desire compensates for the lack of research on the daily experience of urban citizens in special periods in the history of contemporary literature.It has important research significance;and the revealing of this history of desire is closer to the true history of people in special times,and it is a kind of exploration to the true depth of history.
