The task is about the translation of chapter two to four of the bookEconomic Complexity and Human Development that covers author’s seven-year research course. The author of this book is Dominik Hartmann who has put forward many unique economic ideas. This book contains eight chapters, which introduce the influence of economic growth, social change, enterprise development and government policies on human’s sustainable development. The work is an economic text characterized by its rigorous structure and elaborated words. It’s difficult for me to translate participles. As the literal translation can not clearly convey the information of the source text, which gets in the way of achieving the effect of communication. So the translation of participle become the object of my report in my thesis. In view of this translation confusion,I put forward the corresponding translation strategies in the practical report by reading books about participles and translation theories. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the task description, which introduces the original content and research significance. The second chapter is the translation process, including the translation preparation, translation process, and post-translation proofreading. The third chapter is the main content of the translation report. The author first introduces the definition and grammatical meaning of the participles, and translation difficulties. Then the author presents the corresponding translation means by analyzing many real and effective translation cases. The first method is the transformation of parts of speech. The second method is the amplification, such as adding the conjunctions and adverbs in Chinese translation process, which makes the sentence more coherent and natural and fits the reading habits of the target language readers. The third method is the adaptation, namely, changing the voice and structures of sentences, which can make the translation more fluent and idiomatic. The fourth way is the omission, that is,to remove some words that areinconsistent with the Chinese expression habits,in order to avoid cumbersome and make the article more concise and clear. The fourth chapter is about the summary, which mainly introduces the author’s experience in the translation process.
