As a “scholar” capable of wield both the pen and the sword in modern Chinese history,Li Yuandu not only politically and militarily “had meritorious achievements in the community”(Yang Yizheng),but also made outstanding achievements in the historiography,literature,and literary theory.He is a literary theorist who has demonstrated his own traditions in the history of modern literary theory.Li Yuandu proposed unique stylistic theory based on the ideas of his predecessors and Simultaneous generation literary thought,and combined his own literary creation practice.He believes that between the style and the style,there is not only its "essence",but also interpenetration,mutual connection,and mutual integration.There is no insurmountable gap between the style and the style.The so-called “There is no fixed form of literature.” Between styles,there is no distinction between merits and demerits,and their attitudes should not be either one or the other,and they should be the same.Pushing the source backwards,all sorts of different styles come to the same destination,both in Confucian classics.In terms of stylistic classification,with the purpose of "simplification of the essence of meaning" and "authentication through use of the world",the author put forward the theory of "Dual-use thirteen categories " and " Two-body ten categories" in the ancient text according to the characteristics of different styles.In terms of stylistic norms,Li Yuandu asked that different styles should present different writing formats according to their own characteristics and laws,and show different styles of style.In the creation theory,Li Yuandu paid attention to the subject's character cultivation,knowledge reserve,and vision,and believed that the three elements of talent,learning,and knowledge were mutually reinforcing.It's to say” The land is sufficient to broaden its knowledge,knowledge can support his wisdom,intelligence can be applied to his knowledge.”(Poetic preface of Baiyuhuzhuang)Writers should follow the principle of "three unifications" in their creations,that is,"uniqueness" and " not discard the simulation " should be unified,"air-moving machine" and "inheritance of Confucianism" should be unified,"learning ancient" and "studying modern" is unified.In connection with this,he summed up the specific creative process as the “eight methods of creation”,namely,reviewing topic,distinguishing bodies,refining institutions,taking advantage of potentials,using pens,rhetoric,selecting rhymes,and storing materials.(Preface of Fu Xue Zheng Gu)In terms of literary criticism,Li Yuandu put forward the criterion of “exploring Han and Wei to be self-contained”,arguing that good literary works should follow the “old law” and “regular law”and regulate the ancients,but also express their true feelings."The words flow from the true nature." In terms of critical methods,it advocates the use of a literary criticism approach that blends moral criticism with aesthetic criticism.The use of metaphorical means such as "representing poetry in the mountains" is used to express the image.The thesis expounds and studies Li Yuandu's literary thoughts from the perspective of stylistics,creation theory and criticism,and points out that eclectic fusion is the general feature of Li Yuandu's literary thought.
