The Study Of Verb Overlapping(Vv)from The Perspective Of Functional Grammar

From the perspective of functional grammar,this paper makes a study of"verb overlapping" in modern Chinese,including monosyllabic verb overlapping"Vv"(such as "kankan,zouzou"),double syllable verb overlapping "ABab"(such as "taoluntaolun,zhunbeizhunbei")As a very unique syntactic phenomenon,"verb overlapping " is an issue of great concern to the academic community,but up to now,there is still no consensus on the grammatical quality,grammatical meaning and historical origin of the verb overlapping.This paper hopes to re-examine the verb overlapping from a new perspective,and hope to provide a new window for the study of the verb overlapping.This paper is divided into five parts.The first chapter is the introduction part.First of all,it summarizes the research of verb overlapping.On this basis,the problems to be solved are put forward,such as the gramrriatical meaning of verb overlapping,the category of of attribution,historical origin and so on.Next,it points out the research direction of this paper,and introduces the research theory and research methods used in this paper.Chapter two describes the semantic categorie and function of verb overlapping.This paper will redefine the "event",and then generalize the grammatical meaning of verb overlapping from the perspective of"eventualization",and focus on the category status of the verb overlapping.This chapter also divides verb overlapping into two categories according to their functions:those used to state facts and those used to express wishes.On this basis,the grammatical representation of verb overlapping is classified and described,so as to further verify its grammatical meaning and its category.Chapter three mainly studies the quantitative and representation features of verb overlapping,pointing out that verb overlapping does not mean "a small amount of short time".Verb overlapping is a kind of ambiguity and subjective quantity.Its quantification can change with the speaker’s subjective understanding,and also reflects the speaker’s subjective feelings.This chapter also compares "Vv" with "V-v,V 一下"and obtains the unique representation characteristics of "Vv".Chapter Four explores the historical origin of Verb overlapping.First,it reviews various statements about the origin of verb overlapping.Secondly,it combs the origin and development of verb overlapping.By observing the historical origin,it reviews the performance of verb overlapping in modern Chinese,with a view to having a clearer understanding of its essential attributes,functional divisions and representation characteristics.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the research methods,contents and conclusions of the full dissertation,and then plans and prospects for a more in-depth exploration of the issues involved in verb overlapping.
