Compared to other people's information,we have a self-reference effect(SRE)when processing information related to ourselves. There have been many studies that have shown that this reference to the self affects several cognitive mechanisms(e.g.,attention,memory,and perception). With the introduction of the ownership paradigm in recent years, the study of the self-reference effect has begun to show new changes. In addition to discovering self-reference effects in traditional stimuli that are important to individuals(e.g.,names,faces,and traits),when we consider the items we own as a psychological extension of the self, there may also be a self-reference effect on the ownership of the item. Many studies have found that people also show memory advantages and attention bias to the items owned by them, but the impact on perception is still unclear. This article explores the impact of self-ownership on perception through three experiments.Experiment 1 explores the impact of self-ownership on item classification using an improved ownership paradigm. The results show that the reaction time to the items owned by them is significantly shorter than the reaction time to the items owned by others, that is,self-ownership effect occurs, and the influence of the familiarity on it was excluded.Experiment 2 explores the impact of self-ownership on item perception in the unconscious state using the breaking continuous flash suppression. The results show that,in the unconscious state, the suppression time to the items owned by them is significantly shorter than the suppression time to the items owned by others, that is,self-ownership effect occurs, and the influence of the familiarity on it was excluded.Experiment 3 explores the impact of self-ownership on item classification using incidental encoding paradigm. The results show that under incidental encoding conditions, the reaction time of interfering items owned by them was significantly shorter than the reaction time of the interfering items owned by others, that is,self-ownership effect occurs. In summary, the paper draws the following conclusions:1.The self-referential effect extends to the classification process of self-objects,that is,there is a self-ownership effect.2.In the unconscious state,self-ownership can still promote awareness of objects.3.Incidental encoding can form self-ownership.
