This research uses questionnaire as a research instrument to investigate the production-oriented awareness and strategies of college EFL learners,hoping to examine the present situation of their awareness and actual use of English productive strategies in their English learning,and the correlations between such factors as their English achievements and their awareness and use of productive strategies.In order to approach the issue,the present study first discusses the importance of English production in EFL learning and teaching,and the necessity to carry out explorations into Chinese EFL learners' English production.Then it reviews relevant literature home and abroad on English production.On the basis of the literature review,it proceeds to construct a theoretical framework for the present study,which includes the personal experience theory and theories of learning strategies.With the guideline of the theoretical framework,a questionnaire is designed for the examination of the current situation of students' production-oriented awareness and strategies.The subjects of the study are 439 students randomly selected from North China Electric Power University.Among them,there are 247 freshmen and 192 juniors.The results of the study show:(1) Most students have positive attitudes towards the development of production-oriented capabilities.(2) Strategies that contribute to the required examinations are more likely to be used by students than those that contribute to the development of production-oriented capabilities.(3) The automaticity of various mental associations still needs to be developed.And (4) Correlations exist between students' production-oriented English learning awareness and strategies and such relevant factors as their English achievements.Based on the results of the present study,suggestions for production-oriented learning and teaching are put forward:(1) Develop the students' interest in English speaking and writing;(2) Increase strategies-based instruction and offer timely and positive feedback during the students' learning progress.(3) Create suitable learning environment and condition to help cultivate students,self-regulation ability and enhance their self-control ability.(4) Create favorable conditions to strengthen the automaticity of the mechanisms of the mental associations and improve the students'production abilities.
