For a long time, the social class structure of the United States was constituted by the racial politics of white supremacy, and for black women, racism, class struggle and gender discrimination were inseparable. So the path of liberation and individual liberty sought by the black women living under these triple mountains are very different from those of white women. As one of the most influential black woman writer in contemporary America,Maya Angelo exquisitely depicts the life of the black women in the white and male dominated society in her unique autobiographical style, and expresses deep thinking and close attention to the issues of African black women. In her works, black women struggle to find themselves and realize their value in life, becoming independent and strong new images among mountains of tribulation. The research Angelo did in her works has played a positive role in how African-American women build their subjectivity and rebuild self-identity.At the same time,it also strengthens the focus the people of the world has put on African women-the vulnerable groups. This dissertation selects Maya Angelo's best-known autobiographical novel I Know Why the Caged Birds Sing to interpret the thoughts of black women in the black women literature in the new period. In the novel,Angelo creates the black girl Margaret who is modeled on Anglo herself and describes her miserable suffering under the oppression of racial discrimination, class struggle and gender discrimination. This dissertation elaborates the process of how she loses her subjectivity, find her subjectivity and reconstruct her subjectivity based on the theory of Marxism on subjectivity and alienation and bell hooks' black feminism. It aims at embodying the possibility to realize the self-value for women in oppression or the edge of the vulnerable groups by analyzing the black women in the lost and the reconstruction of subjectivity, which has a certain practical significance to understand and think about a variety of problems faced by African Americans. In addition this paper not only interprets the African-American female autobiographical literature, but also provides a new angle for the studies of ethnic literature. The intelligence, independence, fearless spirit of Margaret also has a certain practical significance to other ethnic literature research.
