The Construction Of Female Subjectivity In Wise Children

Angela Carter(1940-1992)is one of the most influential British author who overthrew the tradition and patriarchy by her unique and modern writing techniques.In order to deliver her appeal of equal sexual relationship as a feminism writer,Angela Carter discovered sexual relationship in an adventurous and serious way.This thesis analyzes the construction of female subjectivity in her last fiction Wise Children,this work contains her sophisticated view of feminism.Some of her views are related to Marxism theory,which explore subjectivity in practice,eliminate the gender inequality in labor,economy and class.This thesis attempts to interpret how the construction of female subjectivity works on female liberty,gender harmony and the integrated development of human beings.The construction of female subjectivity is a process of self-awareness and acceptance,developing in practice and trying to reach transcendence,by which we can achieve female liberty,gender equality and social harmony.This thesis has six chapters.Chapter One introduces the background and significance of the topic,the research status in both domestic and abroad,and the purposes and innovations in this thesis.Chapter Two introduces Angela Carter's writing style and the development of her feminism thoughts,then illustrates a theoretical analysis of the main concept of "subjectivity"and "female subjectivity".Chapter Three combines Marxist economic theory with feminism and analyzes the relationship between the construction of female subjectivity and independence of labor and economy for women.Chapter Four analyzes the Marxist views of marriage,love and sex,and how Angela Carter's writing of female body and male body construct female subjectivity.Chapter Five explores how Angela Carter constructs the female subjectivity by using female discourse,and regains the female voice.Chapter Six discusses Angela Carter's feminism view and the ethical inspiration of the construction of female subjectivity,focusing on how it works for elderly women's life.The last chapter summarizes the whole thesis.By exploring Angela Carter's strategies of female subjectivity in Wise Children,this paper attempts to offer some helpful suggestion to construction of female subjectivity in Chinese context.
